The Bean, Rozelle

Today I went back to this warm and friendly cafe with a friend - just to relax and catchup over a coffee after running a few errands nearby. We shared the french toast (delicious and perfect on a wintry day like it was today) and each had a coffee (always good) - and then just sat and enjoyed a chat without having to rush.

There's plenty of room if you are a big group, with a mix of tables sizes and a few with benches. It was pleasantly busy when we walked in - in the late-breakfast-morning-tea time - when we left it was then starting to have a more lunchtime feel.
If you're on your own you can find a book from the shelves that takes your fancy, or make use of the wi-fi if you need to . . . or just review all the album and movie posters adorning the walls. One thing I love about The Bean is the staff, they are always friendly, chatty and attentive.

Paper Cup Espresso, Stanmore

There are two 'Paper Cup Espresso' bars within cooee of my place (well, one I can walk to, the other is a short drive). This was the first one setup, and I love it! Yesterday I took the camera so I could add it to this blog and share.

A gorgeous big counter inside that you can sit at whilst watching your coffee being made - or there's the window benches and padded crates plus a mix of chairs and tables outside if it appeals. It's a quiet, leafy street with a little traffic - the comings & goings of next door (Stanmore Cellars) and local public school across the road. 


A small menu, supplemented by a specials board and a range of cookies and snack options on the bench - there should be something to enjoy with a cup of coffee - next time you're in the neighbourhood, do stop in.

Pigeon Cafe, Surry Hills

This little hole-in-the-wall cafe is in the old St Margarets area of Surry Hills - now a lovely open courtyard haven in off a busy Bourke St. We found it on late and impromptu family journey over to Surry Hills last weekend to visit the Object Gallery and it's current exhibitions that then had us stopping for coffee (their own single-origin coffee/hot chocolate (and a cookie). 

With an outside mix of round and square tables, old school chairs, plastic stools, a circular bench under a tree or the option of stools at the bar inside - we sat right near the fountain on this lovely afternoon enjoying the peace, space and last rays of sunlight.

What I love is when you pop into a place, you're not regular or local, but it's friendly and you're welcomed. So if you're passing by and need a delicious coffee, pop in.

Simmer Cafe, Walsh Bay

Today I wandered into Walsh Bay, down on the waterfront along Hickson Road. I love the old finger wharves - all revamped now, and the area is well and truly alive. With the theatres all around, located just below The Rocks area, quite a number of cafes and eating places, lots of wharf history to absorb, and one of the loveliest walks along the harbour - it's a place you can spend some time.

One of my favourite spots to stop for a coffee (and a bite to eat) is this little cafe. It's all outdoor tables & chairs but different options for seating and relaxing - and a wonderful view of a slice of the harbour. Being part of 'Simmer on the Bay' - a venue, gallery and catering business - the kitchen is busy. On a perfect day like today, the water sparkles and almost beckons me to have a dip (indeed, a passing jogger decided to do just that!).
